“Gonzalez, Picasso and Friends”, Exhibition at the Gemeentemuseum, The Hague (Nov. 25-April 2, 2018)

November 25, 2017 to April 2, 2018

The Gemeentemuseum (The Hague) has organized a retrospective of more than 100 works, of which the majority are being displayed for the first time in the Netherlands. This exhibition sheds new light on the artistic development of Julio González, from an artisan metal-worker in Barcelona to an avant-gardist sculptor in Paris. It also explores the friendship and important artistic collaboration between González and Pablo Picasso, which reaches its height between 1928 and 1932. This exchange plays a decisive role in the development of González’s unique et innovative style, and acts as a catalyst for new forms to emerge in Picasso’s work as well.
