MAIN DEBOUT – STANDING HAND
1937
Medium : Iron, cast, welded
Dimensions : 39,4 x 23,8 x 12 cm
Main debout (1937) is a vertical representation of a forearm and hand with vigorously outstretched fingers. The forms, rendered in forged and soldered iron, have been abstracted using González’s signature artistic language. This stylization, as well as the work’s rugged contours, accentuate the raw spirit of resistance incarnated in the work. Created in 1937, during the Spanish Civil War, Main debout manifests González’s political engagement and solidarity with his compatriots’ fight for democracy.
