LE CAGOULARD
1935 -1936
Medium : Bronze, cast, embossed
Dimensions : 14,5 x 22 x 18 cm
Le Cagoulard (Hooded Man) is a bronze work created by Julio González around 1935. Here, González assimilates Constantin Brancusi’s sleeping heads to his personal vision and technique. The smooth, polished luster of Brancusi’s delicate sleepers are transformed by this skilled Catalan metal-worker into a hooded figure whose ominous nature is accentuated by the interplay of light and shadow on the rough, faceted surface, and its dark, hollow eyes.
