{"id":7874,"date":"2019-08-20T10:27:31","date_gmt":"2019-08-20T09:27:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/juliogonzalez.org\/?p=7874"},"modified":"2020-03-27T11:36:47","modified_gmt":"2020-03-27T10:36:47","slug":"julio-gonzalez-goes-back-to-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/juliogonzalez.org\/en\/2019\/08\/julio-gonzalez-goes-back-to-school\/","title":{"rendered":"Julio Gonz\u00e1lez goes back to school, Fall 2019!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This September, French high school students will discover Gonz\u00e1lez&#8217;s\u00a0<em>T\u00eate Montserrat criant\u00a0<\/em>(1942) on the pages of their French textbook (2nde, \u00e9ditions Hattier, 2019).<\/p>\n<p>This powerful sculpture of a Catalan peasant woman screaming in rage and despair at the injustices of war serves to illustrate a texte by Wajdi Wouawad, <em>Incendies<\/em> (2003), which recounts the horros of the war in Lebanon from 1975 to 1990. First chosen by Gonz\u00e1lez to manifest his solidarity with the Spanish people and the Republic under fascist attack during the Spanish Civil War, the Montserrat remains his preferred theme to express the tragedy of war, as conflict spreads throughout Europe and the world after 1939.
