The Fondation Maeght (Saint-Paul-de-Vence) pays tribute in its current exhibition, “The Spirit of a Collection: Donations”, to the generous donations it has received over the years from artists, friends and family. It recognizes the importance of these donations in helping the Fondation constitute one of Europe’s most important collections of modern and contemporary painting, sculpture, and graphic works.

Daphné, one of González’s late and major sculptures, created at the prime of his career in 1937, is featured in the exhibition. This work is part of the generous donation made by Roberta González to the Foundation in 1972, including 53 works by her father, 39 drawings of her uncle, Joan González, and 47 works of her own. Roberta’s represents the first significant private donation made to the Foundation.

“The Spirit of a Collection: Donations” is on view at the Fondation Maeght (Saint-Paul-de-Vence) from December 1, 2018 through June 16, 2019.
